On a warm summer day, just 20 minutes outside Saskatoon, we said “I do” beneath the prairie skies at Guenther Farms in Hepburn. Surrounded by golden fields and the people dearest to us, our Nikkah was an intimate celebration of love and faith. The ceremony was officiated by the President of my company, Mehmet Tulbek — a full-circle moment that felt both personal and meaningful. My sister, Nabila Mahabub, walked me down the aisle, and our closest friends and family transformed the space into something magical with their thoughtful touches. With only 30 guests, every smile, every prayer, and every happy tear meant the world to us.

On my wedding day, I paid homage to my grandmother by wearing her simple white silk katan saree — the same one she wore in her everyday life. It felt right to honor her in this way. Though I didn’t have my mom, aunts, or oldest sister with me when I said “kobul,” wearing Nanu’s saree made it feel as though the generations of women who shaped me were all present.
